Hope this is a sign you're feeling better , Martin .
You were a bit brave to read Jerome Carcopino . I couldn't plough my way through his book more than a couple of pages at a time .
Southern European languages in translation , I fear .
I've recently read a very good translation of a German Classicist , Werner Eck , "The Age of Augustus".
Very readable .
PS. If you're in the West End , Voltaire and Rousseau have shed-loads of Classics stuff at the moment .
