A plea for open borders Catholicism from the New York Times (HT- James Fulford).

The best of all possible money quotes -

"Cardinal Mahony's declaration of solidarity with illegal immigrants, for whom Lent is every day, is a startling call to civil disobedience, as courageous as it is timely."

Mahony's call is neither 'courageous' nor 'timely', but a recipe for economic and social anarchy.

And Lent has absolutely nothing to do with illegal immigration.

Lenten observance is a duty imposed from above for spiritual improvement. The status of 'illegal immigrant' is voluntarily shouldered in pursuit of financial gain.

And there is no activity more Lenten in character than writing an unread blog.
